Infertility in women provokes mental illness

Experts from the Danish Research Centre Cancer Society found that infertility may increase the risk of mental illness The researchers analyzed data on 98,737 Danish woman who visited doctors in connection with infertility in the period from 1973 to 2003. In addition, it has been estimated as 12.6 years for participants treated in the hospital due to mental health.

The result revealed a very disturbing trend, according to Kompyulenta with reference to the materials of the conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology. During the 4677 observations of the respondents had been hospitalized with mental disorders. Of these, 2507 have failed in an attempt to have a baby, and in 2107 were able to give birth to at least one child.

It was also found that women, after the first consultation for infertility declined further attempts to have children, significantly increased the risk of drug and alcohol abuse in later life. Of the 571 participants who were treated for drug and alcohol abuse, 195 were able to give birth, and 376 did not know the joys of motherhood.

Women who did not become mothers by 47% more likely to fall into the hospital diagnosed with schizophrenia in comparison with rodivshimi. Because the study focused only on the very serious mental health problems requiring hospitalization, the authors believe that their data - just the tip of the iceberg.

Trend can be partly explained by the fact that fertility problems are more common in women with schizophrenia. We also know that women who eventually develop psychiatric illnesses, most others have resorted to treating infertility.
